East Peak for Young People project

Lepton Youth Forum - On the Right Path

13 young people from Lepton Youth Club are working with en:volve at Sheffield Wildlife Trust and Kirklees Youth Service on the East Peak for Young People project to improve their local green space for wildlife and their community.
The young people have been working hard building bird boxes and bird feeders which they have sold to contribute to funds from the East Peak Innovation Partnership to enable them to lay a path linking up the skate park with the rest of the playground.  The area gets boggy and very muddy in winter which causes problems for local residents and restricts access for those pushing prams.  This path will improve access for the rest of the community and hopefully increase the use of the skate park for young people.  Not content with just that the young people wish to see the whole area improved painting over graffiti tagging on the previously misused youth shelter: working with a graffiti artist they will create murals based on the environment around them as well as using the left over soil from the path to create a beautiful new wildflower bed.
Sarah Duly, Youth Participation Officer for en:volve said “the young people have worked amazing hard and showed a huge effort over the course of the  project. The youth centre is keen to continue the work making this a sustainable project that will benefit even more young people.”
The East Peak for Young People project will continue to work with groups of young people helping them to plan and deliver their own environmental projects over North Sheffield, Penistone and District and Kirkburton and Denby Dale until September 2011.
